Keeping it safe
A few pointers to make sure your event is safe for everyone:
- Bring a first aid kit.
- Know your venue fire exits, protocols and procedures.
- We recommend carrying out your own pre-event risk assessment to identify any potential hazards.
- Risk assessments are essential for solo challenges (runs, walks, cycles, swims), anything involving food and drink, and any public in-person event (even if you know the venue like your workplace or local café).
- If you’re unsure, contact your local authority or visit hse.gov.uk for free guidance.
Children & Young People
- If you’re under 16, a parent or guardian will need to register on your behalf.
- If children are taking part, make sure you have permission and appropriate supervision.
- Any adult supervising children unsupervised must have the necessary background checks.
Competitions, prize draws, raffles, lotteries and insurance
Activities like raffles, prize draws and competitions can be brilliant fundraisers, but they’re regulated and may require specific licences or insurance. Here’s what to keep in mind:
- Some raffles, lotteries and prize draws may need a licence, check with your local authority or visit the Gambling Commission for guidance.
- Tickets cannot be sold to anyone under 16.
- Visit your local council for advice on online raffles and lotteries.
- If you’re running a public facing event, you’ll need Public Liability Insurance. Events in aid of Allkind are not covered by our insurance.
- Depending on your plans, you may also need:
- A gambling licence for certain raffles or prize draws
- A public entertainment licence for music, dancing or film screenings in unlicensed venues
- A licence to sell alcohol
- A licence to collect money in public places
Using Allkind’s brand
- Please describe your activity as “in aid of Allkind” as you are fundraising independently. You can download the following logo.
- Only use Allkind-branded fundraising materials (posters, banners, and collection tins) for fundraising activities that you’ve registered with us.
Managing cash
- When you’re counting any cash you’ve raised or collected, make sure another person is with you. This is to ensure you both agree on the totals and avoid any confusion.
- Keep collected cash secure and bank it as soon as possible.
