The planet needs to be respected. We get it. We have a role to play.Â
At Allkind, we are committed to reducing our environmental impact and playing our part in creating a more sustainable future. We are actively working to lower our carbon footprint and align with the NHS ambition of reaching carbon neutrality by 2045.
Our Environmental Steering Group meets regularly to review our progress, promote sustainable working practices, and develop practical strategies that help us make a positive and lasting contribution to the world around us.
Our commitment to net zero
We aim to reach Net Zero emissions across all operations by 2045. Specifically, we are targeting:
- Net Zero for direct emissions and electricity use by 2040.
- Net Zero for commuting, business travel, waste and the procurement of goods by 2045.
Measuring our admissions
Since April 2024 we’ve been collecting data on our carbon emissions to set a baseline, including:
- Direct emissions from fuel use.
- Indirect emissions from purchased electricity.
- Emissions from commuting, waste, and business travel.
We will use these to guide our future reduction strategies and report on progress each year.
Our goals
- 30% reduction in carbon emissions by 2029.
- Net Zero by 2045 with key milestones in 2040 and 2045.
- Implement practical, low-cost strategies to reduce waste, improve energy efficiency, and promote sustainable practices.
Key strategies
- Energy efficiency: We conduct detailed carbon audits across energy sources every 6 months and report yearly on our outputs. Since 2024 when we carried out our baseline, we’ve seen a decline in our carbon footprint. Next steps: upgrade to energy-efficient lighting and explore renewable energy options.
- Sustainable transportation: Encourage our staff and service users to use public transport, cycle, and reducing business travel through virtual appointments and hybrid working where practically possible and appropriate.
- Waste reduction: Enhance current recycling efforts, maintain a paperless office, and prioritise sustainable office supplies.
- Employee engagement: Provide sustainability training for staff and set up a “Green Champions” group in 2026 to promote and embed eco-friendly initiatives for the long term.
