Mental Health Awareness Week (11-17 May) is in full swing, and this year’s theme of ‘Take Action’ is inspiring everyone to step up for positive change. We’re thrilled to kick off our Stepping into Action campaign, encouraging actions that boost mental health and wellbeing, as we focus on our mission of making sure all kinds of people are supported through their mental health challenges.
Throughout the week, we’re connecting with communities and schools across London, showcasing how every day, simple actions can empower ourselves and others to improve wellbeing. Actions help foster connectivity, creating a sense of purpose – feeling part of a safe, positivity community is vital for everyone’s wellbeing.
During these challenging times, more people are feeling exhausted, worried, depressed or anxious, and finding it difficult to regulate emotions. If you or others around you may be going through a difficult time, we want to inspire you to think about what action you can take this week and maybe continue doing as a habit. Because looking after your mental health isn’t just for one week.
Stepping into Action is about taking daily steps, however small, that can make a big difference tomorrow. Change always starts with action. Every action counts. Don’t just think about doing something, commit to it. Step into action with us!
WHAT ACTION WILL YOU TAKE THIS WEEK?
Here’s some suggestions to get you started:
- For yourself – do something positive that boosts mental health:
- Manage your thoughts – cultivate gratitude, avoid flooding the mind with too much information, such as doomscrolling; if negative thoughts pop up, replace them with something positive, don’t give them room to grow!
- Be Mindful, live in the moment – dedicate 10mins quiet time on waking, read before bed, take a few moments to practise stillness and notice your breathing so your mind can ‘reset’ and stop worrying about things to come
- Self care – pick one daily habit you want to improve and commit to that. It could be getting more sleep, exercise, walking in nature, eating better.
- For someone else/others – do things that boost mental health in the community or workplace:
- Look for ways to help/random acts of kindness– checking in on someone, holding doors, creating conversations, taking time to listen, being part of community activities
- Follow @Allkindmentalhealth on social media here – it’s a great way to pause and feel connected, and see how we are working to put kindness at the heart of mental health support
Remember, every action, however large or small, can make a difference to your or someone else’s mental health. At Allkind, we took action to become fully independent so that we could serve even more people across all of London. Kindness is at the heart of everything we do and is our driving force for change.
Thank you for your endless support.
